And what can happen if you don&#8217;t&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Something really interesting happened yesterday. One of our clients got an email from bluehost saying that her website was not following the hosting guidelines and that <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">she had 7 days to comply<\/span> (not providing an exhaustive list of course!) or <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">they&#8217;d terminate her account and delete all her files!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Of course the guidelines is a huge page that nobody wants to read, but that could really hurt your business if you don&#8217;t pay close attention to it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Here are links to my top 2 hosting companies terms of services, if you use them, you need to read this \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>-&gt;&gt;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluehost.com\/cgi\/info\/terms.html\" target=\"_blank&quot;\/\">Bluehost guidelines<\/a><br \/>\n-&gt;&gt;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hostgator.com\/tos\" target=\"_blank\">Hostgator Terms of Services<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It turns out <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">bluehost does not want you to use your hosting account as a storage place<\/span>, even though you have unlimited disk space, you can not do anything you want with it, and one of the big no nos is &#8230;. storing your backups there. In fact this is what their Terms and conditions states:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">15. \u00a0BACKUP STORAGE.\u00a0BLUEHOST OFFERS ITS SERVICES TO HOST WEB SITES, NOT TO STORE DATA. USING AN ACCOUNT AS AN ONLINE STORAGE SPACE FOR ARCHIVING ELECTRONIC FILES IS PROHIBITED AND WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION OF HOSTING SERVICES WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And Bluehost is probably not the only one with these restrictions. In fact hostgator has a similar rule that only allows for <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">1 backup per cpanel on shared hosting<\/span> which is what most people have.<\/p>\n<p>Since I know many of you use or have recently started to use backupbuddy as a safe and automated backup solution, I wanted you to be aware of that and to take proper action before you get the nasty email and get on their radar&#8230;.<\/p>\n<h3>So now what?<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using your hosting to store your backups, check their terms of services to make sure that you are in compliance and if you&#8217;re not, here are a couple of solutions for you.<\/p>\n<h3>Where to store your backups?<\/h3>\n<p>You have several options, here are 5 that you can implement yourself:<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #7ab80e;\">1) Backupbuddy online storage<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Backupbuddy offers 1 Go of storage with your ithemes account so as long as you keep you account current and pay the renewal fee every year, you can store your backups there and even purchase a little more space from them if you need to.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #7ab80e;\">2) Your dropbox<\/h2>\n<p>I personally don&#8217;t like to store that kind of info on my dropbox but many people do.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #7ab80e;\">3) Your computer<\/h2>\n<p>This is a possible option if regularly backup your computer.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #7ab80e;\">4) Amazon S3<\/h2>\n<p>That&#8217;s what we use for us and our clients that are on our maintenance program.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #7ab80e;\">5) A remote server that allows for storage of backups<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">I know that many of you use your hosting account to store your backups as it&#8217;s the easiest, just make sure that your hosting is allowing so that you never have to face that situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Now I want to hear from you, where do you store your backups?
