It’s time for an update 🙂
WordPress just released a WordPress Security and Maintenance release a couple of days ago that fixes 12 bugs, some of them are security threats and hackers will be going after the sites that are not updated.
Here are the safe steps to upgrade:
1- Backup your website
always make a backup before you do any kind of update. If you use backupbuddy for your backups, from your dashboard just go to backupbuddy->Backups and click on complete backup and you’re done 🙂
2- Check your current version of WordPress
– if you’re are on WordPress 3.5 already, this is minor release and you can safely run the update directly on your live site once the backup is completed
– if you’re not on WordPress 3.5 yet, we advise you to create a test site first to test your plugins and theme against WordPress 3.5. There are several plugins that stopped working with that new version of WordPress so you need to be prepared to either update your plugin or change plugin if they stop working.
3- perform the update
From your dashboard, click on the update now link at the very top in the yellow bar.
4- Test your site
After each update, it is a good idea to check out your website and make sure that everything is working properly : social media stuff, testimonials, optins, sidebar widgets.
If you haven’t updated your site yet, do so now. It only takes a minute for most people if you are already on WordPress 3.5. Hackers have started to look for sites that are not updated, don’t be next on their list and update now 🙂
If you have any questions regarding this update, WordPress security or or any other Website topic, just leave a comment below, i’d be happy to help 🙂
